Chrome Extensions For Color Blindness

Chrome extensions for color blind internet users.

Personally I think it absolutely crazy that a color blind mode is not built into most modern browsers considering up to 1 in 12 males are color deficient. The amount of missed sales and missed opportunities in E commerce due to badly optimised websites and color choices is mind blowing. However, I am here to list the very best chrome extensions for color blind internet users and to give you (I assume you are here looking for a solution) my input into these options.

Check out the various Color blind Tests here.

First off, a few quick explanations.

Chrome Extensions:

Chrome extensions are third-party programs that add functionality and features to the Google Chrome web browser. Some popular examples of Chrome extensions include ad blockers, password managers, and tab organizers. Extensions can be installed from the Chrome Web Store.  Chrome extensions can be installed in other browsers using chromes underlying code or those supported by Chrome. Including the Vivaldi and Opera browsers.

Chrome Browser:

The chrome browser was created by Google and was first released in September of 2008. It is one of the most used internet browsers in history.

Color blind Internet Users:

These are folks like myself that have a color deficiency that struggle to see and or interact with many aspects of the web due to their color deficiency.

Purpose of Chrome extensions for color blind users.

There are three main color blind chrome extensions currently available and they serve different audiences and functions.

Category One:

Created by web developers for web developers to simulate color blindness so they can make changes to their websites and improve the overall accessibility of the website. These are used by clever web developers and website owners who realise that including the millions of color deficient internet users is good for business.

Category Two:

Chrome extensions created to assist those of us with color deficiencies so that we can interact with any web page independently of the developer making adjustments for us. These are great extensions for color blind internet users as they open up many aspects of a website to us. Bring greater definition and contrast to the colours used.

Category Three:

Chrome extensions created to allow you to click any color on screen and give you the color. There are lots of these but the mass majority are built by those with good color vision for others with good color vision. And due to this they have no need to label the color, they know the color, the tool just labels the RBG or HEX code, i.e the accurate representation of the color so it can be replicated in photoshop or illustrator.

However, there are a few that label the color being clicked in real world names (red, green, blue etc) and these are the ones listed here, these are the ones that help color blind users like me and you. These are great for accessing information on pie charts, graphs and maps, allowing us to define similar colours, label colours and identify key aspects of a web page that we may be missing.
